4.5 "Trust = Mutual Love" Stars!
Romance lovers looking for a fresh, creative story will fall in love with SPLIT! Please note though that this story deals with some pretty extreme domestic abuse and is sure to tear your heart before giving you the incredibly satisfying and comforting feeling that even the most damaged souls can find their love match, so this story may not be for every romance lover.
A man on the run from the unknown--given his frequent bouts with blackouts--but who believes he has tangled with evil finds his way to the small town of Payson, Arizona where he is finally able to fly under the radar doing construction work and mostly keeping to himself. Enjoying the semblance of normal for the first time in his life, his control slowly begins to be challenged by a woman (Shyann) who he unsuccessfully tries to ignore.
Shyann tried to get away from her small home town of Payson--there are just too many painful memories of her past lingering there--but just when she had started to experience some success, the past blows back in with its strangling hold on her emotions which leads to her losing her job as a budding journalist. Not wanting to return home, but with little prospects for a future job, she returns to Payson until she can find her next gig.
Back at home, she begins working for her father's construction business and meets Lucas. A chance meeting has them sharing a pretty personal moment but yet he seems strangely shut off to exploring if something more is possible. Intrigued Shyann makes it her mission to discover the real Lucas which sets off a whole cataclysmic chain of events. Will the man who has wandered his whole life from town to town trying to find a place to call home, and the woman who has sought to escape hers, finally find solace in each other's arms?
All in all, SPLIT is a special story that will give you a glimpse into a world that you may not have been exposed to before. I loved the character development in this tragic and yet uplifting story, and definitely felt myself anxiously awaiting the next page for the resolution of suspense arc, as well as, to determine if the fragile, budding romance could possibly lead to a HEA under this very unusual set of facts.
