To save her, he'll have to give her up…and she won't let him go.

Dr. Ryan Yin hates his people's mating laws, and he's not the only tiger shifter male who feels that way. But the grumblings of some young males, led by an enigmatic and dangerous leader, threaten his people's survival. Ryan's very real disgust with the Mate Run allows him to infiltrate the group, where he hopes the information he finds can stave off a civil war. He never guesses the young males will go so far as to kidnap tigresses. Now Ryan has to find a way to keep the women alive and get them to safety before anyone else dies. He never expects that among the captives he'll find his mate. Lakshmi is strong, fierce, and beautiful…and completely beyond his reach.

As a rare female tiger shifter, Lakshmi Das was promised by her people that in exchange for taking part in the Mate Run, she and the other tigresses would be safe from the violence and bloodshed of centuries past. Her people failed in that promise. Now Lakshmi is at the mercy of a crazy tiger and his followers who are intent on turning her into a slave mate. Her only hope of escape is the group's sexy, delicious-smelling doctor, a tiger she can't let herself trust but who draws her like no other man she's ever met.

Escape will come at a price neither of them expects. They'll have to defy their people's laws if they have any hope of being together…but only if they can survive the vengeance of an insane shifter determined to start a rebellion.

She is a strong, successful tiger shifter. Her life changes suddenly when she and others are taken by a madman who wants the women for himself. There is one man that is different. He is a doctor that is playing a risky role. He wanted to prevent a war and now there are tigresses at great risk for harm and one is his mate. They work together to keep safe but a future together is far from certain.

Lakshmi is a tiger shifter from a very loving family. She is a wealthy and successful business owner. She participates in the mating runs to comply with the rules of the tiger shifter community and their desire for more offspring. She and some other females are drugged and taken to a site run by a male tiger shifter that has promised those who work with him access to females. While she is scared, she is not one to stand down. There is a doctor who promises to keep her and the others safe. She is not sure she should trust him but something about him calls to her. It is an intense connection and not one she wants to let go.

Ryan has a difficult job. He has to pretend he supports this group that wants to rebel against the Tiger Council so he can report on their activities. When he finds out females are being kidnapped, he wants to do everything he can to keep them safe. As a doctor, he can provide some help but it doesn't feel like enough. While he cares about all the women, he feels a special connection to Lakshmi. She is meant to be his mate but it is impossible. He doesn't believe in the Mate Runs that are required to get a mate. He has to accept that he will lose her to another.

This is book seven in the Tiger Shifters series. The paranormal romance series features tiger shifters finding their mates and also dealing with danger. Each book can be read as a standalone but they do contain references to prior storylines and characters are recurring. One of the main themes in the books is the battles in the community over the female shifters. The tiger community has many more males than females and women are highly prized. They need offspring so females are encouraged to have as many children as they can with multiple partners and there is even a run to catch the women. While Lakshmi does participate but has not had a child, Ryan refuses to participate in these runs which keeps him from having a tiger as his mate.

This book is one of those in the series that focuses more on the politics in the community and the Tiger Council and frequently references previous characters and situations. If you have read the other books in the series, it is easier to understand the background for the story. There is an ongoing storyline about someone on the Council that is secretly working against it. The author shifts the focus to that situation at the end of the book.

This seventh book in the series brings the focus back to the problems facing the tiger shifter community. With females being more rare, many of the males are desperate for the chance at a mate. One man decides to kidnap tigresses and Lakshmi is one of the women taken. She is trying to help them stay alive and Ryan is the only one offering help. They forge a real connection but the options are limited for a man that doesn't participate in the Mate Run. It has a lot of action and danger along with the romance. It is easier for those familiar with the series to understand the background but can be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading the whole series if you enjoy paranormal romances. It offers great characters in exciting storylines that keep you involved in the action.
