- Book 2 of Rogues of Redmere
Notorious rogue, Lord Nathaniel Kingsley always tended to leap without thinking. Becoming a smuggler, adopting a sheep, getting engaged to Miss Patience Grey….
Patience has no need for a fiancé, or a husband. For once in her life, she wants to prove she's just as good as a man and she does not need Nathaniel Kingsley getting in her way. With her brother injured, it is up to her to continue her family's work…and that means tracking down a French spy and ensuring said spy will turn.
Unfortunately, no one believes she can do it alone. Which is where Nathaniel comes in.
Nate is happy to be of service. Why pass up the opportunity to repay an old friend, especially with a little intrigue along the way? Find the spy, play escort to Patience, return home to continue smuggling. Easy.
Or at least it would be if the stubborn Patience would let him do his job. The breeches-wearing woman is determined to do it all alone and, he has to admit, there's something quite distracting about a woman in men's clothes.
Can he keep his attention from her long enough to complete their mission and persuade Patience to let him do his job and protect her? A job he's beginning to find he's enjoying a lot more than he thought he would…

Such a fantastic read!
Patience doesn't really live up to her namesake. She's about as impatient as one could be and ready to take on a covert mission and finally prove to her brothers that she is just as capable as they are. This is her chance to have a long-awaited adventure and help the war effort. If only she weren't shackled to a rogue like Nathaniel.
Nate is a smuggler so secretive assignments are nothing new to him. Being a woman's fake husband, however, is a task he never thought he would take on. And Patience isn't exactly his ideal woman. She wears men's clothes, isn't built like the goddesses he usually entertains, and has a sassy mouth on her. She's opposite of everything he ever thought he wanted in a *fake* wife.
Their mission isn't an easy one, though. They must pose as relatives of a runaway French mistress and try to gain the woman's trust enough to learn confidential information. Unfortunately, this means that Patience must wear a dress and Nate will have to rein in his lustful feelings where Patience's endowed bust is concerned. Soon, the pair are learning more about themselves and each other than they ever could hope to gain from the assignment.
This book was a great read, from start to finish. It's on the shorter side, but definitely wasn't lacking in any way. Patience was a humorous heroine with a backbone I can admire. Nate was a rogue who grew to appreciate Patience's determination and hidden sensuality.
There was a lot of smoldering romance here, too, which was surprising considering the characters didn't like each other much at the beginning. Little moments here and there soon led to a passionate affair that neither Nate or Patience was prepared for. I loved watching their walls come down and their budding romance ensue.
As for the plot, it's not difficult to keep up with and the spying portion isn't overwhelming in any way. I thought there was a good balance of character development, plot advancement, and romance building here. In fact, I liked this one more than the first book of this series, which was pretty good, too. We do get to catch up a little with our earlier couple so that was a nice bonus.
Another fantastic addition to this series and I hope there are more to come! Five stars!
