Paranormal Romance, Vamps & Shifters Romance
Brock Hume is a hunter, and right now he's hunting the most tempting prey he's ever encountered through the early morning streets of Seattle. He really can't help himself. Her scent reminds him of the heather blossoms of his homeland, and she has curves that he can't wait to get his paws on. And she was running from him. A werewolf.
Heather Knight has to be the worst faerie ever, but being that she grew up as a human, that shouldn't really be a surprise. She can't even tell when a man isn't actually a man at all, but a supernatural creature of lore. And she really should have known, for no mortal man was that hot. Deciding her best bet would be to get far away, she heads to the closest airport.
However, she isn't quite quick enough. In a strange twist of fate, Heather finds herself standing in front of the Fae prince. He's a little bit off, and not exactly thrilled that she's been hidden from him for this long. But now that he's found her and her new pet, he has some plans of his own for them.
In a move that would rival the white rabbit's, they find themselves thrown into a game of Survivor meets Alice in Wonderland with nothing but the clothes on their backs. To win the game, and the girl, Brock has five days to find Heather and return them to where he started.
Yet the real games begin when they come back.

A werewolf and a faerie get sucked into a black hole of doom...
No, that isn't the beginning of a Halloween joke. It's what happens to our main characters shortly after we meet them when a scheming prince sends them on an unexplained quest for survival.
There's Heather, the woman who is very bad at being a faerie because she's spent most of her life in hiding. And then we have Brock, an outcast werewolf who has been on his own for years after being exiled from his pack. These two make quite a pair but an even better team as they go against the elements and other obstacles in an effort to earn their freedom.
Even if the couple were able to set aside their growing attraction to each other long enough to find food and shelter, they still have to play along with the prince's constant games and battle beasts in the process. And to make matters more complicated, Brock and Heather each have their secrets which could come between any chance they have at becoming mates. Toss in an impending paranormal war and you've got a bowl of supernatural craziness.
This book was a lot of fun! The description hinted toward a resemblance to Wonderland, but it actually reminded me a bit of the Hunger Games, with random obstacles to conquer while in an exotic setting. Our pair have to fend for themselves in every way, while protecting their paranormal identities and fighting the prince's pesky golden coin tosses.
As for the characters, I liked Brock and Heather, separately and together. Their chemistry was great and the naughty scenes were pretty good, too. Heather is learning about her fae powers while Brock's wolf comes out to play. Both characters grow and adapt as they learn to protect each other and work together.
There were several secondary characters but we don't really get to explore any of them beyond the surface. The book includes a few short flashbacks but a lot of the history of our characters remains vague for most of the story. I would have liked to learn more about how Heather and Brock met because that part was mentioned a few times but never really explained.
This series will continue but feature different characters in the next book. The overall plot of a supernatural civil war is just getting started and I think more about this world will be explained as the series goes on. And this werewolf and faerie pair are ready to join the fight.
A good start to the series! Four stars!
