Historical Romance

She's determined to end her betrothal, but he must make her his, no matter the cost.

As an infant, Mayra Findlay's hand was pledged in marriage to Logan Rutherford by order of the king. She's only seen Logan once since; when they were still young children. Over the years, she's written him several times, asking that he petition the king to end their troth, but Logan never responds. However, after a chance encounter with an irresistible rogue she can't stop thinking about, nor stop secretly meeting, Mayra is resolute she'll marry for love. Though it's risky, she initiates a bold scheme that's certain to force Logan to call off their union.

Until Laird Logan Rutherford returned to Scotland and inherited a near bankrupt estate, he had no intention of wedding the lass he was betrothed to as a wee lad. He'd planned to honor Mayra's ever more demanding requests to dissolve their marriage contract, but now he must have her dowry to save his beloved Lockelieth Keep. One day, he prevents Mayra from taking a nasty tumble, and he's immediately intrigued with the intelligent lass.
Mayra doesn't recognize Logan, and after she reveals her utter contempt for her betrothed, he impulsively assumes his cousin's identity. A decision that soon has Logan snared in a tangled web of deceit, because he's fallen in love with Mayra.

Buy this first book in the Heart of a Scot Series for a gripping, emotional, Highland adventure you won't want to put down.
Though this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel.

Can your betrothed actually be your true love?

When Logan lays his eyes on the woman he's been promised in marriage to since he was a child, he can't help but fall fast for the intelligent and gorgeous lady. There's just one problem, though. Well, really two problems. First, Mayra doesn't know who he really is since he foolishly lied about his name. And two? His affianced desperately wants to call off their betrothal so she can marry the man he's pretending to be. Yikes.

Mayra hates the idea of marrying a complete stranger. So much that she's written the laird on several occasions over the years, begging him to end their betrothal. All of her letters have gone unanswered, much to her dismay. And when a handsome young man catches her eye in the village, she can't help but to imagine a life free to marry the charmer. When she learns the truth of his identity, will she still wish to marry the man she's tried so hard to separate herself from?

While this was a pretty short story, I really enjoyed it. No, it didn't have a lot of meat to it since the majority of the couple's interactions could be condensed to two or three chapters. There is a lot of wordy internal dialogue to get through, but the characters were surprisingly endearing. Even when Logan was pretending to be his cousin, I found him to be genuine in every other way.

I thoroughly liked the both of them. And I found Mayra to be a likable heroine. There isn't much of a plot as the romance here is the real story. And it's clean, with only a kiss or so which still left me smiling. The ending was cute and made me chuckle. I could have easily read a longer book with this couple.

In closing...
I wonder what's in store for Logan's cousin. His story is next. Four stars!
