Lady Sarah Strathford has been married and widowed twice, the second time to an inventor who created a potential weapon which has sparked the interest of many parties. Sarah is having renovations done on her home, not realizing that her contractors have been infiltrated by criminals with the intent of searching for her late husband's formula, as well as planting false evidence to implicate Sarah in her husband's death. Niles, Sarah's brother, is determined to see her wed again, this time to a friend he's indebted to, but one who also has an ulterior motive. Sarah has no intention of marrying again, yet the thought of an affair with someone close to her own age holds much appeal, since her husbands were much older.
Damen Ravenhill, heir to a viscount, normally handles business interests away from town, but he's been summoned home by his father. It seems that his younger brother, Cornelius, is in a coma from a severe beating he received, and it's possible he may not recover. Since Damen and Cornelius are almost identical in looks, Damen decides to impersonate him, and investigate who tried to kill him. His path crosses with that of Sarah, and a tangled set of circumstances leads to their joining forces.
Sarah is surprised at Damen's interest in her, because at a previous meeting, he was polite, but definitely cool toward her. Of course, that was the real Cornelius, not Damen, who genuinely finds her attractive. I admit that their adventures and the twists in this story left my head spinning. Damen's family has to battle criminal elements, which also affect Sarah. Cornelius has left a trail of women he's seduced, who are now clamoring for Damen's attention, believing he's Cornelius. The plot thickens as Damen and Sarah begin a steamy affair, which appears doomed as he can't reveal his true identity. If you enjoy unusual characters, humor, and a unique storlyine with your romance, THE TROUBLE WITH SEDUCTION may be just the read for you.
