Eighteen year old Justin Hopkins ekes out a living writing freelance articles for magazines. When he receives an offer from his psychiatrist uncle to help write about ground-breaking research, Justin jumps at the chance. He travels to his Uncle Blake's isolated ranch with hopes of big-time publication.
There, however, he is held captive and worn down, physically and mentally, by Blake and his followers—all, as Blake professes, to make Justin as ‘ strong as possible,' in body and mind. Can Justin survive the torment? Or will he succumb and join the others, even bring harm to someone else, now believing it will make them as ‘strong as possible?'

When Justin's uncle lures him to an isolated ranch, a chain of events occurs leading to daily beatings.
Uncle Blake claims to be an expert on isolation and how it affects memory, in addition to how well people relate to others after they've been alone for lengths of time.
INTERNMENT by David DeGeorge has the ingredients of a horror novel with repeated torture sessions as Blake tries to "shape" his nephew. There are sessions where Justin receives a beating based on his response to a question. The thriller aspect comes to light as the reader tries to figure out what the end game will be and whether Justin will be changed forever as a result.
There's a significant sense of a cult-like atmosphere that the author expertly conveys as the storyline unfolds. While the content is both disturbing and dark, it's a glimpse into a person's frayed psyche and the danger that can result when power is added to the mix.
