Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance
Suddenly single on the eve of her fortieth birthday, Nancy Tobin's not sure turning middle-aged is worth celebrating. She's stuck in a dead-end job as the boss's bitch with only her morose Labrador for a companion. What does she have to party about? Maybe if she ignores the whole birthday thing, it will just go away.
Hot, twenty-six-year-old Jake Turner has other ideas. When he bumps into Nancy at the library, he sees a woman in need of a wake-up call. Determined to unleash the beauty hidden beneath the sad façade, he schemes to relight her spark. He wants to give her a birthday to remember but he ends up being the one who can't forget: a visit to his apartment becomes a weekend in his bed where he discovers an offbeat, unpredictable, sexually adventurous woman he never wants to let go.
With Jake, Nancy can do anything, her life can be whatever she chooses. But this new and exciting relationship teeters on the edge of destruction when her soon-to-be ex-husband reveals the reason for Jake's initial interest in her. Can Nancy trust Jake when he finally tells her he loves her?

Nancy Tobin hates her life. Her husband is a nightmare, not to mention a cheater, her job makes her miserable, and to top it all off, she's about to turn 40. Just as she's contemplating the best way to end her misery, she meets sexy, young stud Jake Turner in all his hot twenty-six year old glory. Jake shows an interest in Nancy that she can't help but think is a joke. After all, she's fat and middle-aged. Why would this gorgeous young hunk be interested in her? However, Jake won't take no for an answer, and he's determined to show Nancy just how interested he is. But just when Nancy's life begins to show some promise, her world comes crashing down around her with some startling revelations. Can she trust her feelings or is fate just playing another cruel joke on her again?
This novel is not like most younger man/older woman books I've read. Nancy is seriously screwed up. Jake is mature beyond his years. They need each other. I enjoyed the way the relationship developed. And even though I knew pretty early on what the big reveal would be in the end, it didn't take away from me wanting to know how they would get there.
It was nice to see Nancy transition into a stronger woman over the course of the story. Some of the plot seemed a little far-fetched, but it kept me reading to find out what was going to happen next. The sex scenes were plentiful and erotic, and I seemed to like Nancy's character the best during those time because the reader really got a glimpse of the person she was really meant to be…uninhibited, full of life and passion. I must say that as much as Nancy frustrated me, I still wanted her happiness in the end. Although I wished the plot had been fleshed out a bit more, I felt that overall it was a fun read.
