(Regret, book #1 of the Shattered Secrets Duet, should be read before Torment)
Finding out that the man she may have accidentally fallen in love with has an undeniable link to her past has Scarlet convinced that normal no longer exists for someone like her.
Hunter was hired by her enemy to find her, but instead he warmed her bed and thawed her heart, only to discover a secret that has the power to break her for good.
Now, surrounded by threats, lies, and soul-shattering revelations, Scarlet tries to survive by doing what she does best--pushing everyone away, including Hunter. Especially Hunter. But he wants to help her, be her knight in shining armor, and prove to her that there might still be hope for them.
But she's lived in this nightmare long enough to know that fairy tale endings don't exist...especially when the big, bad wolf comes knocking, ready to claim his 'Little Red.'

TORMENT takes dark and twisted to a whole new level, and the intensity level is off the charts. The story picks up where Regret left off, and I mean that literally. From the first sentence, we're right in the middle of the jaw-dropping cliffy from the first Shattered Secrets novel.
Both books in this series, as well as the series title itself, are perfectly named. The secrets just keep coming, or more accurately, the reveals of said secrets just keep coming, and they are whoppers. Parts of the story are incredibly heart-wrenching and hard to read, especially as Scarlet finally faces the monster that has kept her on the run for years. As if that's not enough to keep the heart racing, the author also gives us a healthy dose of betrayal, loyalty--some misplaced and some not, and even a bit of justice.
Hunter and Scarlet don't have a conventional romance. Sunshine and rainbows are not what their love story is about. But make no mistake, as hard core as it is, there is a love story here. This pair is pulled together almost magnetically whether they want it or not, and they are quite volatile, both in and out of the bedroom.
All of this combined to make for a completely riveting read, and if that's not enough, we come to the epilogue of this edge of your seat story. I won't give spoilers, but that conclusion blew me away. Here's the thing--I knew it was coming, but it didn't matter. I was still wide-eyed, thinking, Oh no! Surely the author isn't going there! But she did go there, and even though I didn't want that ending, or at least I didn't think I did, it was without a doubt, perfect for the crazy ride that is Bella J's TORMENT.
