MC Romance

WARNING: Not your usual romance. Please be prepared. This love story takes a turn toward dark, intense, and gritty subject matter, including sexual abuse, and could test your emotional fortitude.

New York Times bestselling author, Victoria Danann, begins a new biker romance series spinning off SSMC.

What will he do to get her back? Anything.

Take a journey into the exotic culture of bayou country in Louisiana's Lafayette and Acadia parishes. Cajun beauty, Angelique Bellefeuille, has had enough of bikers and their bullshit. Being put in danger because of her father's motorcycle club makes that conclusion rock hard solid.

When she's sent to an allied club for protection from a rival club, she's reunited with her childhood friend, Just Batiste. Only he's not the cute, fun, adventurous kid she remembers. He's large, in charge, and menacing.

Fate has her own sense of timing. The last thing Batiste needs is a distraction from the new joint venture with the SSMC that could make his dreams come true. But there she is dividing his attention, partly as memory of her as a little girl and partly as grown woman walking around in the mind-numbingly curvy form of a blue-eyed mischief maker.

Just when he thinks he can't get more frustrated with the little troublemaker, she's kidnapped by the very people he's supposed to be protecting her from. What will he do to get her back? Anything.

Distraction or not, he vows to personally initiate a facsimile of Armageddon on any man who would threaten, frighten, or touch Angel.

Interview by Laura

Hi Victoria, welcome to The Romance Reviews, and let's talk about your latest book BATISTE, the 1st book in the Cajun Devils Series.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for the Cajun Devils series? How are the books tied together? How are the books related to the series Sons of Sanctuary MC?

I live in the Houston area where we have almost as many Cajuns as you would find in Louisiana. The SSMC series and Cajun Devils are inextricably tied together. Two of the major characters in Batiste Just Batiste and Dev Merit, as well as the Devils as a club, were introduced as part of the story of SSMC, Book 5, Roadhouse. This is the next biker romance release for me and the SSMC figures prominently in the tale. The following book will return to Austin, SSMC #6, Merit.

Q: What is it about MC Romance that draws your interest?

Until a few weeks before I began my career as an Indie author, I was the utility player in a Classic Rock band. We played some big gigs like Warrior Dash to 35,000 people, but most often we'd often play to small crowds in biker bars. Had conversations with biker women in the restroom. Occasionally got asked if my husband, who was usually around somewhere, was my old man. It is a subculture that's dear to my heart because they love Classic Rock and because they're the last people who aren't teens who still get off their duffs and go out for live music.

Q: There's a fairly stern content warning ahead of this book's description. Is this subject matter a departure for you?

Yes. With the exception of The Biker's Brother, which is the second book in the SSMC series, the books have been straight forward romances against the backdrop of biker life. This book delves into the underbelly, but in an odd, juxtaposed way, the romance is all the more poignant and profound because of the ugliness. It's not my intention to set a precedent or standard for raw grit. This book is a stand out in that sense.

Q: What for you is a romantic moment between them?

The most romantic part of this book is near the end when the heroine, Angelique Bellefeuille, experiences a make or break fork in the road. She will be a victim forever, or she'll open the door to Batiste, who loves her enough to figure out what will bring her back from the abyss.

Q: Which character is the hardest to write? Why?

Villains are hard to write because they're villains. Despicable is just that. Nasty.

Q: What kind of research did you have to do to write this book? Please share an interesting fact or unique behind the scenes experience.

Because of my locale, I've been rubbing up against Cajun culture most of my life. But to be sure that I didn't get anything wrong, I spent time with a Cajun authority in New Orleans recently. On the flipside of intellectual, I took an honest-to-god coonass to a four hour lunch at the Rainbow Lodge here in Houston. I had a notebook full of questions. He answered my questions, gave me more grist, and in true Cajun style, sung me French love songs.

Q: What's up next for you?

After I send this interview I'm stepping out of reality as most people experience it and returning to the delights of paranormal romance. As they say here in Texas, you need to dance with the one who brung you and paranormal readers are the ones who 'brung' me. So I'll be launching a new series about urban werewolves in October. I let the readers decide by poll what they'd like next. First time I've done that and it's kind of exciting to write on demand.

Sounds great! *grin* Thank you for your time, Victoria!

Ever wonder about the personalities behind your favorite books? Some of them just might surprise you with their interests, wit, lifestyles, and sense of humor.

Victoria's signature humor ("Everybody was staring at me because I was on the subway in fits of laughter and couldn't stop!") creeps into each and every book whether she intends it or not. But the heart of Victoria's books is romance, the real kind that lasts and lingers like a charge in the air. Forever.
