- Book 1 of Gansett Island
Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she's knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy's Resort Hotel by Gansett's "favorite son," Mac McCarthy. He's back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be "maid" for love.

There are stories that tickle your fancy and give you a case of the feel-goods and MAID FOR LOVE by Marie Force is one such story. Taking place on Gansett Island, Book 1 in this inspiring series introduces us to Maddie Chester and Mac McCarthy, Gansett's "favorite son."
By not looking where he was walking, Mac manages to knock Maddie off her bike, injuring her, and gets her bike mangled and inoperative. Realizing that he's caused her a huge inconvenience and sensing her worry, he makes her an offer to take over her job duties until she can safely return to them. Granted, it doesn't hurt that doing so will allow him to be close to her and her adorable son, Thomas.
Likes: As meet cute scenarios go, I have to give props for the creativity and I loved how disarming Mac seemed, at least to readers, even if Maddie was left suspicious. Their developing relationship was much like opposites tangling to find common ground and Ms. Force does a great job showing us Mac deftly balancing his desire to give Maddie everything without overwhelming her. Maddie is a great character and the emotions she portrays fighting to give her son a good life balanced against the need to fit in, or at the very least, not stick out (spoilers!), represents almost every single mom out there. Since this is a romance, I'd be remiss in pointing out how well the two characters work together and how much their relationship development will have you grinning as both sparks and clothes fly.
Since this is part of a series, with each story serving as a standalone, if you fell in love with the Gansett islanders, then you will look forward to the other books in this series. I know I am.
