BDSM, Erotic Romance, Romantic Suspense/Mystery
Newly divorced Mia Reynolds doesn't like Chief Nolan MacGregor. His
arrogance gets under her skin, but it's her body's instant reaction every
time he levels that cobalt gaze upon her or hints at giving her what he
keeps insisting she wants that really gets to her. After her husband's
betrayal, she's sworn off getting involved with anyone, and certainly isn't
going to trust her fragile heart with the town's reformed bad boy.
Nolan wants Mia and refuses to let her prickly stubbornness stand in his
way. Once he entices her into an affair and shows her the benefits of
submitting to him, her off-the-charts responses prove he was right all
along – she is the one for him. When his investigation into an illegal drug
ring implicates Mia's business, he never stops believing in her innocence.
When the Feds go around him, Mia refuses to believe he hadn't been with her just to keep an eye on her and her nursery for proof the drugs were coming in on the trucks carrying her landscaping orders.
Mia's reluctance to trust Nolan completely lands her in trouble with a drug
trafficker and it isn't until she is kidnapped that she realizes what her
insecurities and refusal to let go of the past might have cost her…

Mia Reynolds has just signed her divorce decree. As a newly single woman, she wants to do what every woman wants to do after divorcing your cheating ex; curl up in your PJs and hide out from the world. She's sworn off men. If only Chief Nolan MacGregor would abide by her wishes but the Chief has other ideas. He's waited ten long years for Mia and he isn't taking no for an answer in BJ Wane's CLAIMING MIA.
This is another fun, romantic BJ Wane story that includes second chances, unrequited love, hot passionate romance, and spanking. With a combination like that, who wouldn't be intrigued but can a prickly pear like Mia get past her trust issues to find true love?
Overall, I liked the story. I could relate to Mia as she struggled continuing to build her business after divorce and dealing with feeling "less than" as a result of her ex. I thought that Nolan was a bit of a bull in a china shop in terms of his pursuit of Mia at first but then I loved how he completely backed off making her miss his constant assault on her senses. I also really enjoyed the internal battle Mia went through coming to terms with the fact that she really liked Nolan's dominant nature. The secondary characters were all great and blended well with the story and I enjoyed the suspenseful aspects that helped to drive the plot along.
However, as I was reading the story, I was hit with a constant feeling of déjà vu and when I searched my Kindle, I found a similar story in an anthology and I think that was the original story? So, if the story sounds familiar, that's why.
CLAIMING MIA is a story of second chances. Of finding your own way. Of finding love when you aren't looking for it. And of learning about yourself in the process.
