What's a future duke to do when the most unsuitable woman possible captures his heart?
Eden had tried to avoid even a hint of scandal her whole life.
Plowing headlong into the Marquis of Sterling and dropping eggs on his boots wasn't the most foolish thing Eden Haverden had ever done. Imprudently agreeing to take the charming rogue home when his horse went lame wasn't either. But reluctantly accepting Chester's invitation to stay the night at his familial estate after she nearly drowned? Yes, that assuredly was a rash decision and invited utter ruin. So why doesn't she listen to her common sense?
The DeCourcy sins have haunted Chester his entire life.
Determined to create a new legacy for the tainted duchy, Manchester's every action and decision are governed by diligence and discipline. A man of reason and purpose, he should not be distracted by the wholly unsuitable Eden Haverden. Not only is she the illegitimate offspring of his father's arch enemy, she's also the sister of the man who'd killed his brother. Why then, can't he resist the powerful connection between them?
Can Chester convince Eden to put aside their families' feud and trust him with her heart and love?

Miss Eden Haverden has done some foolish things in her short time on this earth. But none so foolish as accepting Manchester's, Marquis of Sterling, invitation (no, insistence) to stay the night without a proper chaperone. Completely scandalized and with an ailing mother, what will happen to her?
Estranged from his father the duke, Manchester has lived his life where every action and decision are made with diligence and discipline. Refusing to follow in his father's footsteps, he becomes a man of reason and purpose. When he agrees to return home after being gone for ten years, he's determined to create a new legacy. Why then, does he find himself completely smitten by the most unsuitable woman?
Miss Eden Haverden is a joyful character. She was so much fun to read. From her impudence to her outright charm, she is wholly unapologetic for anything and everything. As the bastard daughter of landed gentry, she knows that her prospects for a suitable marriage don't exist and she's determined to make the best of it by carving out a life for herself, her mother, Mr. Wiggles, Acorn, and the aging servants that her half-brother turned out for being too old. She has made the best of a dour situation and come out glowing. It's no wonder that Manchester becomes smitten with her. Except that when he's around her, it seems that reason and discipline matter for naught with love on the horizon.
This is an utterly charming story. At 44,000 words, it's an easy read with characters that are so likeable (and a few downright despicable) that you will instantly be drawn into the going-ons of Miss Eden and her menagerie of misfits and castoffs. The attraction between Eden and Chester is sweet, as they try to balance propriety with desire. And the secondary characters greatly enhance the charm and likeability of Eden and Chester. If you enjoy historical romances and are looking for a distraction that will put a smile on your face, then this is the story for you.
