I fell in love with a town full of shifters.

What can I say? This series is 100% my cuppa. I love when an author's secondary characters are as compelling as the romantic leads. Dani Harper has crafted an entire town of shifters and humans coexisting. She's made each of their personalities and histories unique, yet tied them together through family and community. Waiting for new books to be released is going to be the hardest part.

To give you an idea how much I liked this book, let me paint the picture. I picked it up off my TBR pile on July 3rd. I read, the kids played. I read, my husband drove us to the drive-in theater. I read, they all watched Cars 3. I read, they slept. I read, they marched in a 4th of July parade (I did look up and snap photos--if not, he would have taken my book away). I read, they napped. Less than 24 hours later, I put the book aside and I'm about to go find my kindle and buy book 2 in the series.

Zoey Tyler has come to the small town newspaper to escape the tragedy of city life. She hopes the move will give her anonymity and peace from her psychic abilities. What could be the worst this town experiences? It doesn't take long for her to find out. A wolf attacks her, leaving her with a vicious wound and a new protector, Connor Macleod.

Connor is the local vet. He's overworked, and under rested. The last thing he is looking for is his mate, but that's what he finds when he rescues Zoey from a rogue wolf. Now, he not only has to break the news to Zoey that her psychic gifts are only the tip of the paranormal iceberg, but he has to protect her from tabloid reporters and a wolf who wants more than a taste of her blood.

The Macleod brothers and the town's pack are the foundation that lifts Zoey and Connor up. They bring the humor, leadership, insight and clarity to the story while Connor and Zoey bring the tension and heat. Let's just say that I read a lot of erotic romance, and Dani Harper can sex up her books with the best of them. None of the intimate moments are forced. In fact, the woman took her time and had me clawing in need for the two to finally get at it already. Mmmm. Mmmmm. That's all I'm gonna say.

I loved how Connor was the last to realize that Zoey was his mate. Even his playful brother figured it out before he clued in to why he was so protective around the object of his desire. The rest of us on the other hand had it figured out in the first ten minutes.

The suspense was there. It was perfectly timed, and thankfully not over the top. I prefer to have a taste of my villains, but not to give them equal ink in my books. I even felt sorry for one of them in the end.

Shifter fans who enjoy series that build on a community like Shelley Laurenston's Pride and Mangus Pack series will enjoy Dani Harper's contribution the the PNR genre. Her style is more subtle but no less entertaining. Join me as we get to know this new pack together. Enjoy!
