On her 18th birthday, Holly is promised to a man that she cannot stand. She is resigned to spend the rest of her life in a loveless union. However, in her dreams, she is seduced by a man who takes her to heights she's never known. She wonders if the passion she feels in her dreams can ever be replicated in real life. The night of her 18th birthday, Holly goes into the Great Woods where she meets Freya. She is given two choices: spend her life in misery in a forced marriage or marry Roahre, the Faerie king. Holly soon learns that the choice she makes will make her a pawn in a deadly game.

Though this book is part one in a series, I felt like there was an entire prequel that should have been told first. I would've liked to have seen how cousin Shandy came to live with the sisters and their mother and how Holly became betrothed to Kaedric, etc. Ms Diamond wrote a decent story, although I wanted more details. The characters were fine, though not really complex. I did find Freya very interesting though. She will definitely be a force in the next installment. The story moved a little too quickly for me, and I really didn't like the ending. However, this series does have potential.
