This extended version has been extensively rewritten and is at 90,000 words. (The short version of Claiming Kristen at 25,000 words is available in Tasty Treats, Volume 3 Anthology.)

Who would've thought that an impromptu beer and chocolate run would introduce you to your forever mate? Werewolves, matings, hot sex and hot tempers—what could be more fun?

Jenny Penn's newest offering, CLAIMING KRISTEN, introduces us to Kort and Jakob Nickel and their mate, Kristen Jacob. Stopping in a grocery store in the Covenanter pack's land, Kristen thought she could pop in to pick up some necessities and leave with no worries. She didn't know that she was going to become part of Jakob and Kort's "must pick up" list. They determine she is their mate and nothing would deter them. Regardless of the fact that she is in another pack, regardless that her brother is the Alpha of that pack and regardless that she has no choice- Jakob and Kort are determined to make her theirs.

In a frankly distasteful mating, Jakob and Kort lay claim to Kristen. Jenny Penn is generally over the top with her dominant males and these two are no exception. Almost immediately, this intrepid trio set the sheets on fire. Ms Penn knows how to write ménage scenes. She's a master writer in that respect. Kristen, overcome with lust, accepts the mating bites from Jakob and Kort.

Now, I get the whole "I'm your mate and I'm overcome with lust, so I must have you now" ideology. It's a common theme in paranormal erotica. CLAIMING KRISTEN was just a bit too much "in your face." The "seduction" of Kristen smacked of blatantly taking what they wanted and no one was going to stop them. The pace of the storyline is break neck - with regards to the initial claiming - but then slows down immensely. Granted, with the plot slow-down, Kristen is being wooed by Kort and Jakob, but it became monotonous. Jakob and Kort said empty platitudes about letting Kristen "get to know them" and in the same breath, complained about having to wait for sex with her. Kristen wanted to control who she was going to be with, she wanted to control some aspect of their lives and she manipulates Jakob and Kort.

All in all, CLAIMING KRISTEN is okay but didn't knock my socks off.
