MUTTON HOLLOW ROAD by AJ Hardcourt follows Jack Alder and William Vladimir. We meet Jack as he is driving to a Halloween party. He's lost, driving on a darkened road and almost out of gas. Not knowing whether he should turn around or continue seeking his destination, he stops at a house, which perfectly matched the holiday. When he knocks on the door, clad in a BDSM leather getup, William Vladimir is excited. When Jack enters the house, a series of events quickly unfold which reveal their attraction is as perfectly matched as their roles as dom and sub. As if a chance sexual encounter weren't steamy enough, Mr. Hardcourt threw in one additional twist.

In corresponding with Mr. Hardcourt, he informed me that this was one of his first published works. While I love the descriptive language and the heat index is parallel to all of his other marvelous works of passion and eroticism, this was the first story I read which didn't knock my socks off. That's not to say that the story wasn't good. It was. But I've seen such unbelievably brilliant work from him, that the few things which were less developed in this story stood out.

Most notable was the way the two characters connected with little to no conflict. There was adequate plot for the 13 page short story, and the descriptive language and imagery was wonderfully written to evoke multi-sensory experiences while reading, but the draw which connected the two characters wasn't as strong as in other works by this author.

Out of several homeruns, this was a double…good, but not the best representation of his talent.
