Emotional, intense, sexy and sensual...DESIRE'S EDGE was all that and more. I was literally glued to my kindle the entire time.
Kara has dark desires that she knows to keep to herself after being spurned by a former lover. But when she sees her former crush from high school, Dante, she decides to end her self-induced celibacy to explore the attraction they obviously have for each other.
Dante was attracted to the high school Kara and is even more attracted to the grown up woman. When he finds that she has desires that fit with his own dark needs, he is drawn to her even more. He doesn't do relationships, so he's quite happy that Kara doesn't either.
However, when their jobs bring them together, they begin an affair that gets deeper than either of them expected. With the deeper feelings trying to bring them together, their pasts threaten to tear them apart.
The characters in this book, I think, are what drove the story. Kara and Dante, while perfect for each other, can't seem to get it together enough to make their relationship work. It was funny and sad at the same time watching them falling in love and trying desperately not to. Now, as much as I liked that, I thought toward the end of the book, that they needed to get over themselves. I got a bit frustrated with them, but they redeemed themselves in the end.
DESIRE'S EDGE also explored the psychology behind BDSM relationships. There wasn't much heavy play here, mostly spanking with a bare hand and some bondage, but it really got into things that we don't really see much in BDSM romance. The author goes into detail about how Kara gets into subspace while "preparing" for Dante. That was something I never really thought about before, but when you think about it, isn't getting ready for a scene just as much a part of BDSM as the scene itself?
Also, I loved the chemistry between Kara and Dante. They really were insanely hot together. Dante's shower fetish...YUMMY. They filled a need in each other that they didn't realize they had, and that translated into their lovemaking. And that made it so much more erotic.
DESIRE'S EDGE is a BDSM romance that was heavy on the feeling, the emotion behind BDSM and not so much on the practice of it. I thought it was an interesting take on the genre, and I was totally enthralled. I didn't read the book connected to this one, Pleasure's Edge, but I have moved it up on my TBR.
I think that this is a good book for those who don't have a lot of experience with BDSM romances, but are interested in it, or those who might like their erotica to have a bit of a darker edge. But I think it will keep those with more experience captivated as well.
