Riley Beckett's past just came back to haunt her . . . and this time, he's got a gun.
When Gage Lawton finds his brother shot dead on his back porch, every shred of evidence points to one person: Gage's former lover, Riley. He and she didn't part ways on good terms, and he's not planning to rekindle anything now--not when he's got a revolver pointed at her head and a finger on the trigger.
A year after Riley swore she and Gage were over, he returns in a hail of gunfire. One look into those achingly familiar blue eyes and she knows how wrong she was to let him go, but now far more than their heated past stands in the way. A twist of fate puts them in the crosshairs of a killer, leaving Riley with two slim options: trust her greatest betrayer or face a murderer on her own.

Sometimes things are not what they seem; the family you protected and gave up your life for lied along with the person that you have loved all your life. Your heart and your mind are two different things but at times your heart will dominate your mind and all you have to do is go with it and hope it ends well.
UNFORGIVEN is a story of a determined man, Gage Lawton, to seek revenge on his dead brother. Only that he never thought he would see his true love under these circumstances. He promised her that he would never find her again but circumstances changed and he believes that she is the one that killed his brother. Deep in his heart he knows that there has to be a mistake but all the evidence points to her. Only when he pays her the visit he never thought that they would be under fire and have another dead body on their hands. They seek refuge together but their feelings are so strong that they find each other in each other's arms once again.
Riley Beckett is a woman that turned her back on love because of a tragic accident that killed her parents and left her brother paralyzed. She never stopped loving the man that caused the accident, Gage Lawton. She believed his innocence and knew it was an accident but it seemed that the whole town was against him and wanted to see him in jail. So when she saved him from going to jail, she lost everything that was left. Riley finds herself staring at the man she has loved and all those feelings return and there is no turning back time. She loves him and he is HOME.
Riley and Gage make a good team in trying to investigate who is trying to kill him and frame her. During their journey in the hunt, they find out they have more questions than answers. Gage's boss tries to help them out but it seems even his high technology does not have the right answers. Gage and Riley find themselves in a shoot out at the beginning of this story, then in a burning home and finally fighting over a secret that Gage kept from Riley and that is where the turn of events happen.
All in all, UNFORGIVEN was a good story. It was action from the beginning of the story with some hot passion in-between. The characters were hot and intense; the plot of the story was perfect. This is my first read of this author, Sarah Balance, and I will continue to look for her wonderful work. This story will keep you guessing as to who the shooter may be that is trying to kill Gage and frame Riley. Then the truth is revealed and it took me by surprise and that's all I can say before I reveal too much.
Pick up a copy of UNFORGIVEN and read for yourself how this story ends. Riley and Gage do get their happily ever after but not before the shocker of the killer and how it changes everything.
