Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance
Passion beyond nine to five.
Rebecca Adams has been in love with Gavin MacAllister for as long as she remembered, though she'd met him about six years ago, when she was sixteen. He'd always pushed her away, but no longer. She's determined to make him see her as a woman—a very desirable woman. Working together in the same company should allow her to do just that.
Only one other person knew that this was her last hurrah before she gave Gavin up forever. Because she has a secret she's been keeping from him.
Can she make him succumb to this forbidden desire pulsing between them?
Note: Forbidden Desire is essentially a romance between two people who had the misfortune to become part of a family when they are already (or nearly, in the case of Rebecca) adults. They never saw each other as stepsiblings. All characters are over 21 years of age. This book contains explicit sexual situations and graphic language.

A secret devotee of forbidden love stories, I was thrilled to have a chance to read FORBIDDEN DESIRE, and my expectations were met and thoroughly exceeded. Not only is this a steamy, tension-filled story that refused to let me go, the depth of emotion packed into this troubled love affair had me feeling every twist and turn of the plot right along with the characters until the very end.
From the day her mother introduced them, Rebecca Adams has been in love with Gavin MacAllister. Never mind the fact that she was 16 and he was 22. In the six years they've known each other, her feelings have matured from a school-girl crush to something much more serious. But the fact is, Gavin is her stepbrother, and Becca is convinced that he will never see her as anything but a kid, anything but a burden.
For Gavin, living with Becca since she graduated has been torture. For six years, he's hidden his overwhelming desire for her as best he could. But living in the same flat and working at the same office only reminds him on a daily basis that she will never see him as more than her stepbrother, no matter how much he might crave her. Now that she is always with her co-worker, Josiah, Gavin is also sure that he's missed his chance, and seeing Becca so happy with another man is driving him completely insane. So when a note (most likely meant for
Josiah) is delivered to Gavin, inviting him, in Becca's handwriting, to a secret tryst in the office broom closet, he does what any madman would do—he goes to meet her.
But though their brief, sizzling encounter goes a long way to fulfilling Gavin—and Becca's—longtime fantasy, it still doesn't solve the problems simmering between them. Convinced that Gavin was unaware of the identity of his mid-morning tryst, Becca has decided to move on, and move away, making their blazing moment together her farewell. Can Gavin find the courage to give her a reason to stay?
This was a blisteringly hot little read that sucked me in from the first scene. But what kept me reading was the real, often wrenching emotions that flared as strongly between Gavin and Becca as their mutual lust. The years of secrets that fueled their moments together made for some genuinely memorable—and genuinely steamy—scenes. I was pleased to see, however, that watching their relationship develop, and learning about their history together, that Becca and Gavin shared a real relationship that was just as important, and just as emotionally deep, as their sexual attraction. They loved each other, faults, insecurities and all, and it is their desire to see the other happy that has kept them apart for so long. Watching them grappling with their needs and their feeding the other's passions was scintillating, in more ways than one.
In thinking about this review, a few issues became evident; of lesser importance, both the dialogue and the narration sounded distinctly British to my ear, but the talk about Becca moving to ‘another state' did have me slightly confused as to the book's setting. More importantly, however, neither Rebecca nor Gavin play fair in the course of their courtship, and hide their broken hearts behind cold shoulders, deception, and some pretty hurtful rebukes. In many circumstances, their behavior would have turned me off to their story, but their heartache was described so sympathetically, and their feelings for each other were so brutally real, that I found myself caught up completely in the moment, hoping that their better natures would win out, and sighing with relief when they were able to share a few moments of passion, even under such clandestine circumstances.
While the tangle of the relationship straightened out much more quickly than I had anticipated, the scene itself was so touching and passionate that I found myself sighing in relief and sitting back to enjoy.
All in all, this was a page-turning, emotional roller coaster of a story that fit a remarkable amount of detail, heart and searing steaminess into a mere seventy pages. It's certainly a sign of Kai Andersen's talent that while I might not have agreed with all the schemes and strategies of our hero and heroine, I spent the whole book caught up in the heat of the moment and aching right along with them to see the fulfillment of their forbidden desire.

Becca has been in love with Gavin for as long as she could remember, but he didn't seem to return her feelings. She decides on one last gambit before she leaves him forever...
I love the tension between the main characters, the angsty moments, the would-he or wouldn't-he that played out in my head. I was holding my breath the entire time, wanting to know what would happen next, and making me root for their HEA. A short read, FORBIDDEN DESIRE keeps me flipping the pages! I read it in one night. I couldn't put this book down!
