Proof that sometimes the biggest surprises come in small packages, IZZY'S INCUBUS was surprisingly complex and packed with plenty of heat. While I wished there could have been more scenes and details to do justice to all the great characters and steamy scenes, this was still a very creative story from an author I would definitely read again.
Tired of one-night stands and held back by her own self-esteem issues, Izzy is done with trying to find a man the way all her friends do, at bars or clubs. So, for her birthday, she has decided to summon a sex-demon to pleasure her on her own terms, no strings attached. She never dreamed that her spell might actually call a fiercely sexy incubus, or that it would be powerful enough to bind them together as mates. And when Amar, her devastatingly alluring incubus, manages to destroy the only safeguard built into the spell to protect them, Izzy's plans for ‘no strings attached' crumble to dust. Now, not only are she and Amar bonded for life, but without the other, both are doomed to waste away and die. But could the hopelessly handsome Amar really find all he has ever wanted in Izzy—and will she be able to overcome her own fears and embrace all her demon offers?
This was a fun and fast-paced story with a deceptively complex plot and characters. The consequences of being bonded to Izzy are far more ominous than Amar ever anticipated, both for him and his family in his home realm. Learning the details of his future without her, and the way his mother and brother view his human mate were really interesting revelations. I wish I had the chance to learn even more, to spend time with his family and understand his world to a greater extent.
Similarly, without the cover blurb, I don't think I'd have known enough about Izzy to fully sympathize with her. She is a daring, hard-working woman, and while I was thrilled to see her drop her inhibitions and find love with someone who could accept everything about her, I found myself wanting more from the plot regarding both her and Amar.
Nonetheless, the instant attraction was obvious from the moment they set eyes on each other, and I liked the sense of belonging that both felt in the other's presence. Compared to the humans with whom she works, Amar is certainly the least demanding and most considerate male in her life, and it was great to see how all of Izzy's ‘flaws' became beautiful in the eyes of her mate—and eventually, to Izzy, as well.
I wish there could have been greater detail and exposition in this book to flesh out all the fascinating details and steamy situations, but I still found it an enjoyable read. While Izzy and Amar are certainly an unlikely pair, they have some sensational chemistry and real connection and the fascinating details of this story made me hungry for more!
