I've heard so much about this author that when I was given a chance to review her book, I jumped at the chance. The blurb initially caught my attention, and I settled in for an exciting read.
Riley Lawless and his siblings lost their parents at a young age, when his father's partners murdered them for his code and made millions out of it. For twenty years, they've been working on a chance for revenge and justice. Now, the time has come.
Going by Riley Lang, he was hired by Ellie Stratton, the daughter of Philip Stratton, to help her buy out her father's business partner's (Steven Castalano) stakes. Both Philip and Steven were the object of the Lawless's revenge, and now that Philip was dead, Riley sets his sights on Ellie, only to realize that Ellie is nothing like her father. There was mutual attraction between them, but just as Riley changed his mind about Ellie, things explode, the truth is out, and Ellie felt betrayed. Could Riley win her back? What about justice for his parents?
I love Riley! He's so sure and confident, and clear-eyed. He saw Ellie clearly for what she is, and he isn't blinded by what her father had done. But what I like about him the most is that he wasn't inflexible. When he realized he loved Ellie, he could and is willing to forego his revenge (justice) for a chance at happiness with her.
While the conflict was intriguing and the plot contains unexpected twists and turns to make this story exciting, the writing felt unpolished. Which, I have to admit, hindered my enjoyment somewhat.
That said, I think the author has bigger surprises in store for us in the next books, including the identity of the fourth person who had wronged their parents.
