Amelia Grey has added everything a historical romance fan could ask for. A dashing hero, an impulsive young lady and reoccurring dead body has all the elements you need for A LITTLE MISCHIEF. This sensual novel is a wonderfully entertaining tale for any Regency historical romance fan!
Miss Isabella Winslowe's Wallflower Reading Society has been a huge success. That is until one day she finds Gretchen, the Earl of Colebrooke's sister, in the garden standing over a dead body. To protect this young girl and get to the bottom of this disaster, she must deal with Gretchen's brother, Daniel Colebrooke. He is insufferable, overbearing and makes her heart flutter every time he is near. Isabella easily becomes addicted to the adventure and mischief, but it's the charming earl and his passionate kisses that she loves the most.
Daniel is beginning to feel the same way. While he began this endeavor in order to keep a close eye on Isabella as they try to solve this murder, it's becoming quite obvious the unique miss is tempting this eligible bachelor in all the right ways.
A LITTLE MISCHIEF is everything you've come to expect from a novel by Amelia Grey. One thing I have always come to love about Ms Grey's novels is the dialogue. It's always sharp and witty, adding so much to the overall charm of the novel. Isabella and Daniel share a great chemistry and part of that is because of the dialogue Ms Grey supplies her characters. Their witty banter is always entertaining and so much fun to read.
"If you look closely, you'll see his white shirt is now stained red with blood."
"Yes, I do see it," she answered, wishing she could make him understand that she was trying to be positive for Gretchen's sake. "But if he came back to life once before, he can do so again."
Daniel stepped closer to Isabella and said, "You are impossible to talk to."
"How convenient that I was just thinking the same thing about you."
There's a certain appeal to the connection they share through irritating each other. Mainly because they can only annoy each other for so long until that anger they share turns into passion. The build up of their mutual attraction was done extremely well, giving the reader just enough to tempt, but never enough that you could stop reading. A LITTLE MISCHIEF was extremely difficult to put down because the story sucks you in and always engages your interest.
Isabella was a fiery, intelligent woman that worked hard to achieve what little independence she could grasp. Though she was an innocent in many ways, she believed in living life to the fullest. So when she wanted something, she went for it. Daniel was exactly the opposite. He is looking for a quiet reserved life without complications, so he must find an acceptable and proper wife. He was very protective of those he loves and also very distrustful of others. Both protagonists were typical for a historical romance but it was their chemistry together that made their story unforgettable. I find it very rare to have two characters that fit so perfectly together and in such an obvious way.
A LITTLE MISCHIEF is an all too brief novel that fans will love to pick up again and again. I have read the ending a few times, because it is so absolutely charming and completely satisfying. The plot line of this novel is funny and vastly entertaining because of the solid story Ms Grey builds throughout and the impressive characters she adds to the mix. The mystery added in is very light and is somewhat comical at parts. It's not heavy or extremely dramatic, which suits the story well because overall, this is a very light read. It is a cute and alluring story that is sure to leave you smiling by the end. With A LITTLE MISCHIEF, you have the talented and accomplished author Amelia Grey doing what she does best—writing an overall superb novel. Whether it's the witty prose, the humorous plot or the outstanding characters, readers will find something or everything to fall in love about A LITTLE MISCHIEF.
