"Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" is Shelby Atwood's personal credo. She's managed to avoid commitment all her life – no pets, no plants, not even a long-term lease. Heck, she's had colds last longer than her romantic relationships. How could she be any other way when she has a gigolo for a father?

But then gunfire erupts at the latest wedding she's agreed to be in, and it ends up being the best thing to happen to Shelby's love life. Detective Ryan Nichols is assigned to the case, and when the shootings don't stop, he becomes her 24-hour bodyguard. Shelby wouldn't mind except Ryan is too appealing, too sexy, and too happy to remind her of the raucous bachelorette party when she mistook him for a stripper.

Shelby's plan is simple: find the shooter, have a fling with Ryan, and return to her non-committal life. Unfortunately, the shooter is very elusive. Shelby's feelings for Ryan are way more than adrenaline-fueled lust. And returning to her normal life is now impossible since, despite her lifelong resistance, she's managed to put her heart smack dab in the line of fire.

I DO …. OR DIE will have you laughing from the beginning to the very end. You will probably find yourself agreeing with some of the things Shelby says. I know I did, especially when she refers to something as a "thingie", because I use it at times, too.

Shelby Atwood really wanted for the shooter to target her best friend, not that she wanted something to happen to her, but at least she was not the one dodging bullets. Soon, she found herself being protected by the very same detective who showed up at the hospital to investigate the shooting. From the moment she sees him, it's like she has been struck with a lust-o-meter.

Ryan Nichol was getting ready to go on vacation to Hawaii when he took Shelby to his home as he wanted to protect her from the shooter. Shelby was not his type of woman but her sense of humor attracted him almost immediately. Or was it because he remembered her from another incident? Ryan vowed that he would go on his vacation as soon as the shooter was captured, but then, they made another pact.

I fell in love with Shelby almost immediately with her snarkiness and her nicknames for almost everyone she encounters. Totally loved it when she calls Ryan "Detective Smirky Pants", as it totally fit him. How can I forget the cat, Serena, and how it seemed that both Serena and Shelby were fighting for Ryan's attention. How Shelby glared at the cat and it totally seemed that the cat was glaring back at her. So many times I found myself laughing out loud with them both.

As hours and days pass by, the chemistry that both Ryan and Shelby share is sizzling hot and about to combust if something is not done about it. But when it seems something is about to happen, they get interrupted. Soon they get the lead they need and they think Shelby is safe but is she really?

Just when you think Ryan and Shelby will have their happily ever after, Shelby gets cold feet and pulls back from Ryan. There is a shocking secret that she learns from her gigolo father. Will Shelby be able to profess her love or will she let the man of her dreams get away?

I have to hand it to Ms. Cummings—if she wanted to get a laugh out of me, she totally succeeded. This story is full of humor that will have you dabbing your eyes from laughing hard that it will make you cry. I totally fell in love with Serena, wonder where I can find a cat like her. I loved the banter between Ryan and Shelby and it seems like they have been married for years, their relationship seems so natural. The writing is clean and the storyline is full of love, humor and suspense. At the very beginning of this story, I did find myself rereading it a time or two but after the first couple of pages, I totally understood what was happening.

This is my first read by Ms. Cummings and I have to say I DO… OR DIE will be staying in my library to reread when I need a good laugh. Pick up this book today and enjoy the banter between Ryan and Shelby.
