SUMMARY
The city of New York knows Nathaniel West as CEO of his father's corporation, but Abby knows he's more. He's also a Dominant and when she hears he's looking for a new submissive, she decides it's time to do something about that fantasy.

After one weekend with Nathaniel, Abby knows she needs more. Nathaniel is equal parts stern Master and polite gentlemen. He can drive her to new heights of pleasure while at the same time nurture her novice submissive spirit.

But though he can command her body, her heart isn't as easily controlled and she finds herself drawn more and more to the man whose collar she wears. At times she feels she is making progress in thawing his cool demeanor, but then just as quickly, he once more hides behind his carefully constructed wall.

Abby believes her relationship with Nathaniel can encompass the best of both worlds, that they can be beautiful together. But Nathaniel lives by a set of rules that don't allow for negotiation and she fears he'll never see the truth of what they could be. And though he is careful with her body, he just might end up breaking her heart.

After reading Fifty Shades of Grey last year, I have to say that it was hard for me to read another trilogy that would captivate me just like Christian Grey did, but THE SUBMISSIVE with Nathaniel West totally held my interest. For those who thought Anastasia Steele was a little na´ve, I have to say that Abigail King was the total opposite and she held her own at times.

I did a little research after I had received this book to review and was saddened that I have to wait for the next two books to be released, but I will sacrifice and wait. Thank you so much, Tara Sue Me, for publishing your work and for the publishing company that made this possible.

Abigail was missing something from her past relationships but she didn't know what. There was a time in the past when her mother needed help with her finance situation and one of the board members made it possible. That is when she knew that what most people said about Nathaniel West was not true, that he was not a bastard. And so, she sent an application to him to be The Submissive.

She was successful and since she had read all of the papers that Nathaniel had given her, she was ready to face him when Friday came (the date of their appointments). When Abigail enters Nathaniel's home, she knows what he is talking about when he references certain pages and sections and does as she is told. He further explains some of his explicit rules, but one rule bothered meŚno kissing. I know that kissing on the mouth is sometimes reference as more intimate, but come on, he was totally into her. Nathaniel was holding back. The highlight for the weekend was when she received her collar.

Nathaniel started off slow with his D/s behavior and some training. He knew that she had never been in this type of relationship and gave her some slack but not too much. When she disobeyed one of her rules, the Dom came out and he was not very happy. That was the first time she experienced a spanking, an unpleasant spanking, then came the spanking with the leather strap. That was something that I did not like because while I understand she broke a rule, there should've been some after care, which came only the next morning. However, that was when she seriously knows what her hard limit is and thinks about using her safe word. But she remembers his words from the first weekend, "Your safe word is turpentine. Say it and this ends immediately. You take the collar off, drive away, and never return. Otherwise, you will come here every Friday."

As days go by, Nathaniel shows up often at the library where Abigail works and they spend some quality time in the Rare Books Collection room where they won't be seen by anyone. He seems to be getting emotionally attached to Abigail and it seems that she is taking down his wall, but soon he puts it back right up.

There was also some mystery and tension between Nathaniel and Todd, one of his friends. Not even Todd's wife knew what happened. Can the truth of that secret break what is developing between Abigail and Nathaniel?

I got so excited as I was reading this book and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. However, I will tell you this: he needs to really beg Abigail in order for her to forgive him because what he did was cruel. Some surprising truths were also revealed.

When I first started reading this story, I really didn't like Nathaniel because he was such a jerk, but when Abigail found herself in a bad situation, he was there to comfort her and make sure she was fine. That was when I truly fell in love with him. He was able to give Abigail what she was missing from her past relationships, to discover a new lifestyle and not be afraid of a little pain because pleasure was right around the corner. I really liked that this showed a certain side of him and how it impacted Abigail because of his insecurities and intimacy issues. How his actions pained Abigail and how she was able to handle each intense situation. It took a lot of guts, will and power to do what she did. I loved the storyline of this book and how it unfolded a D/s relationship and touched all of the bases for that type of relationship. The Dom is there to take care of all the needs that the submissive may have, and in return the submissive is there to take care of the Dom. The sex scenes are smoldering hot, there is some BDSM but not too explicit.

THE SUBMISSIVE is a must read if you loved 50 Shades of Grey. The writing is clean and very entertaining. I can't wait to read The Dominant to hear Nathaniel's point of view of this relationship.
