Curse you, Serena Akeroyd!!! How could you leave us dangling with such a huge cliffhanger!? Sigh.
Gia, Luke and Josh have lived as a happy family unit, along with their daughter, for years, but when Luke returns from his 5th deployment a broken man screwed over by the country he's dedicated his life to, there may not be much hope left for the three of them. With a dishonorable discharge and heinous allegations against Luke, along with a severe case of PTSD, Josh goes on the warpath to clear his husband's name and reputation, but he knows he's fighting an uphill battle against the Army's good ole' boys club. Gia is fierce when it comes to her men and their daughter, but even that may not be enough to bring them back from the brink of devastation. The three of them will face down secrets, lies, destruction, devastation and separation with nothing but the power of love.
GAAAAH! Ms. Akeroyd slays me every.single.time. with her stories. Yes, they feature hot as hell menage relationships, but she's the best at humanizing the characters and making them relatable even to people who have never considered a permanent threesome an option. I LOVED the first book in The Luck of Love series, and this follow up was much needed to get past the emotional HFN cliffhanger she left us with. Gia is fierce as ever, but she has no clue how to balance her life with Luke not the man he was when he left them, with Josh keeping secrets from her, with having to tiptoe through her own life. Her struggles are what I've witnessed on friends who've welcomed their men home from battle only to be completely caught off guard as to the damage done.
There's not a huge amount of sex in THE POWER OF LOVE, but that's ok, because this story isn't just an erotic romance. It's a really a poignant look into a relationship that looks non-traditional on the outside, but which shares the same issues and problems as any other relationship would. My big beef is that this book cut off RIGHT where the drama was reaching a climax, dammit! I couldn't find much info on the third book featuring the triad other than the title, The Strength of Love, but I hope that Ms. Akeroyd puts us out of our misery soon!
Bottom Line: Nobody does sexy menage angst like Ms. Akeroyd! Pick up everything you can by this awesome author!
