Running interference when it's unneeded and unwelcome can wreck havoc on its own, but going back for a bout of calculated but misguided revenge directed at an innocent party can lead to years of pent up guilt.

Until her brother Zane's recent move back to Dentonville, professional workaholic Nicole DeMonde had little reason to return to her hometown once she'd left it. But serving as maid of honor in her brother's wedding to the high school sweetheart he'd been forced to give up and had only recently reconnected with, was a happy occasion that was reason enough to prompt a return weekend visit. Unfortunately, avoiding the bride's twin brother Wyatt, the high school crush that had taken Nicole's virginity at sixteen and promptly dumped her, wouldn't be possible as Wyatt was serving as best man.

A certain amount of mature poise and practiced nonchalance was called for to let Wyatt know she'd moved on from her ultimate high school mistake. And, just the right clothes to offset her killer curves would show him what he could have had if revenge against her brother hadn't been Wyatt's top priority on the night she so willingly gave him her innocence.
It was just too bad that Wyatt Truman was just as dreamy as ever.

For fifteen years, Police Chief Wyatt Truman felt a gnawing sense of guilt about his past sins. At eighteen, he'd felt that Zane DeMonde wasn't truly in love with his twin sister Julianne, so he'd taken pleasure in breaking the couple up back in their senior year of high school. But now that Julianne and Zane were getting married, Wyatt had to accept that he'd been completely mistaken about the depth of their feelings all those years ago. It also meant he needed to apologize to Zane's little sister for making the calculated decision to take what she offered, then immediately dumping her. He was prepared to serve penance and let Nicole lash out as much as she felt was needed.

Yet, the controlled woman with the knockout curves who came for a wedding in Dentonville was not the angry, bitter woman Wyatt was expecting. A lawman going from penitent to flirting in less than thirty seconds ought to be illegal!

With WYATT'S GUILT, Sara Daniel has penned a sexy page-turner featuring a couple who share a regrettable, but interesting past that they each want to close the door on in their own way. Having not seen one another in more than a decade, neither counts on the sudden explosion of emotional and sexual upheaval that manifests itself within minutes of their seeing one another again. The scenario of ‘should we or shouldn't we,' with all of its ramifications and dilemmas, is soon played out in ways both bold and subtle, but with a flair that engrosses one to keep turning the pages to discover if this couple has any sort of future.

The only fault I found with WYATT'S GUILT is that, because the teenage Wyatt never reciprocated the young Nicole's feelings, I felt his emotional bonding to the adult Nicole happened almost too suddenly. This, in turn, colored my perception of the conclusion, which was cute, but still left me wondering if young Wyatt simply denied his feelings for the sake of revenge.

But, as this couple is interconnected to characters in some of Ms. Daniel's other titles in the Finally Ever After series, I may yet find an epilogue for this couple in a related story that solves the mystery of Wyatt Truman. Overall, a pleasing story with great chemistry and a sexy night of passion.
