SWEETHEARTS IN BLOOM is an anthology featuring the short stories of Cher Green, Miranda Heart, Joy Brooks and Georgina Sellwood, pleasantly bringing together a historical sweet-and-lusty (for those times) romance, a hot paranormal (considering the setting) romance, a small-town sweet romance, and a magical sweet-and-a-bit-suspenseful romance.

From the cover, I got the idea these were all going to be like sweet/historical romances, though the blurb about the book gave more of a sense of the anthology's variety. (But I always like to give a word of warning for those of us who tend to grab a book by its cover). Considering the first story is the historical romance, it's easy to feel this sets the tone for the rest of the forays into love. But the second (a good girl gets caught up in lust for an incubus) starts off at such a different pace that I had a "Wait, what?" moment.

(The bio section at the end of the anthology was cool.)

"Coming Home" by Joy Brooks is about first love and lust in a society of manners (set during the Napoleonic wars). Marshall and Gabrielle discover their mutual attraction and affection two weeks before he must leave for war. Will he return home to her? Will her first love also be her last?

"Her Dreams Come True" by Miranda Heart is an interesting read blending the evil of an incubus, the heart of a human and the hope for redemption. It was hard getting into at first, but I enjoyed the various elements at play, and the way both humans found their true companions despite their past sorrows (and present state of "living in sin" through their dreams).

"Prairie Lily" by Georgina Sellwood captures the small-town world where men order mail-order brides and girls escape to marriages of convenience--but perhaps find love, as well. Lily, one such girl, catches the eye of the local pastor, Marcus, but there are so many eligible men and so few women. Will they find each other in the end, or will circumstances lead them astray?

"Escape to Love" by Cher Green follows the misadventure of a witch-in-training trying to find her way back home amidst a world where magic is used for cruelty and any who oppose the tyrannical council suffer. Can Constance Spenser become the savior she is destined to be and rescue the man she has come to love? This is a nice story about second chances, though I felt it was a bit short--like it belongs to a novella and had to get edited down to a long short story form instead.

As a whole, SWEETHEARTS IN BLOOM is well edited and the different voices are surprisingly complementary. I am intrigued by the works of the authors and would likely check them out.
