When two souls on separate personal missions have their paths converge in a dark, dangerous forest, inherent genetic traits can bring them together or drive them apart.

American surgeon Faith James came to France looking for her missing sister Hope. A tip that Hope was recently seen in a remote forest, and that a man named Mason LanVal might be able to aid her search, sent Faith speeding into the unknown. When an ethereal woman who looks like Hope darts across the dark road ahead, Faith wrecks her rental car and pursues the woman into the forest, but soon finds her leg caught in a rusty hunter's trap. She's losing too much blood and, though her keen sixth sense is signaling danger, Faith can't keep from passing out from pain and blood loss. But, unknown to Faith, an immortal Guardian has sensed her presence and comes to save her from the dangerous bloodlust that permeates the forest.

Immortal Blood Knight Mason LanVal's purpose is to extinguish his genetically impure cousins, the bloodsuckers; vicious vampires with tainted DNA who trap and hunt humans and other creatures to feed their bloodlust and strengthen their kind. Blood-celibacy sets Mason apart from other beings, but when he senses the woman in the forest, he senses pure temptation. Before he even reaches the woman caught in the vampire's trap, he detects the Lycanthrope genes mixed within her human DNA. Not only is the woman forbidden fruit to Mason, but her genetic makeup will further empower the tainted ones if they reach her first. A mere drop of his immortal blood was the only way to mask the woman's human-wolf DNA and keep her from becoming another vampire victim, but making her an immortal blooded female makes her even more alluring to one who must resist female temptations.

To keep her safe from the bloodsuckers and shield himself from his own baser needs, Mason releases Faith into the care of Andre, an alpha werewolf with whom he shares an uneasy alliance in that Andre's kind also wish to eradicate the vampires from the forest. But Faith, determined to find her sister, smitten by her overwhelming attraction to Mason, and ignorant of her own Were ancestry, brings out a protective possessiveness in Mason that won't allow him to let go.

Author Linda Thomas-Sundstrom has penned a paranormal tale full of lures, secrets, deceptions, mystery, betrayal, and forbidden romance. The story's many twists and turns are revealed with such precision that I was compelled to find out what would happen next and I was never disappointed.

Hero Mason LanVal has a divine mix of complex characteristics. His very purpose of being separates him from others and forces upon him a rather lonely existence, so it was quite compelling to witness this hero's inner conflicts with regards to his honor and duty versus his desire for a female that unknowingly has the potential to destroy him. As for Faith, her need to save her sister, and coming to terms with her ancestry and all it entails, makes her no less determined to crumble Mason's defenses and offer her heart in exchange for his own.

With its fantastic plot, ancient mysteries, and satisfying ending, those who love paranormal romances are sure to enjoy this latest addition to the Vampire Moons series.
