Born in the flames of Heaven's wrath, he's all things sinful and too dangerous to love...
An immortal guardian, Aethan has walked alone for millennia, trapped in a hell of his own. Until a feisty mortal crosses his path. A female he shouldn't even look at, one who shakes the precarious foundations of all that he is, and one who's determined to walk the edge of danger.
All her life, Echo Carter wanted "normal", an impossible feat given that she can see demons. Drawn back to the alleys of New York, she's determined to hunt down the one responsible for the death of her friend. And no man, no matter how sexy, will stop her. Until she discovers a horrifying truth about herself, forcing her to turn to the one man she should avoid. Aethan.
But when two stubborn wills collide, a dangerous passion ignites…
As evil closes in, Aethan has to overcome his darkest fears and claim Echo as his. If he doesn't, he just could lose her to a far more sinister fate…

Aethan is an immortal who has massive powers that can destroy. He was sent from his home to this new world when he was involved in a tragic death. Without his family, he has no one except for the other immortals who also serve Gaia in protecting the humans in this world from the demons. They bear great scars from their pasts and are devoted to their mission. He does not expect to meet a woman who also risks her life to destroy the demons. Once he finds her, he can't let her go even if a future together might risk her life.
Echo is also scarred by her past and the loss of her family. She is a human but sees auras and can detect demons. Her abilities have made others fear her and treat her harshly. She has few friends and when a demon took one of their lives, she made it her mission to find him and make him pay. Echo doesn't care about the risks. When she meets Aethan and learns more about the world of demons and her own past, she has to make some tough choices about continuing her current path or choosing a different future than she expected.
This is the first book in the A Fallen Guardian series which is also related to the Empyrean Immortals series by the author. Both of the series feature warriors who have survived intense personal pain and now devote themselves to their new role as a protector of humanity from demons. Each of these warriors has been scarred by their past and are haunted by the events that lead to their current path. Their work introduces them to their mates but it is not simple for them to be part of a relationship, especially with a human. They live a life of danger and it becomes even more treacherous when they begin to care for someone.
You feel their intense chemistry even when they may try to deny the pull. The author lets that attraction build to combustible levels before letting the sparks really fly. There are several major obstacles which make it difficult for Echo and Aethan to claim each other. There are surprises that neither expected and individuals determined to keep them apart. Echo learns a great deal about her family origins and it changes her life dramatically. They have to have great faith to overcome their fears and the challenges they face. As with the other characters in the two series, these two are strong and don't give up or give in easily. It definitely keeps you interested and eager to read on.
These warriors serve an important mission to protect the Earth from the demons. They have suffered greatly and lost a great deal in their personal journey. Aethan was banished and lives with that intense loss. Echo lost those she loved too and never felt like she belongs anywhere until she meets Aethan. These two will never have a normal life but they work hard to have a life together. As with the other series, you get a great mix of action and romance that keeps you eager for more interactions with the characters that you have grown to love and care about.
