With few clues to go on and a newborn baby in tow, Kendall James sets out on a journey to find her wayward husband. What she finds when she arrives at his family's estate, however, is a lifetime of secrets that shatter her illusions, put her life in danger, and offer her a love she never expected.

When Luke Templeton agrees to marry Kendall and claim his brother's child as his own, he has no intention of falling in love. Of course, he doesn't bargain on his uncontrollable attraction to Kendall or his inability to remain indifferent to her tiny son.

As Kendall hurtles headlong into danger, Luke has no choice but to follow, intent on saving her regardless of the sacrifices he must make.

Turning a tangled web of deceit and pain into a sweet love story is not an easy thing to do. But that's exactly what Gloria Davidson Marlow does in her latest book SWEET SACRIFICES. Immediately drawn to her characters and driven by the constant mystery surrounding them, I couldn't put the book down.

Kendall James is a modern woman living in early century America. She is independent, intelligent and inquisitive. After being left behind by Adam, her husband, poor and with barely any means to survive, she sets out on a journey to find him and introduce him to his newborn son.

When she arrives at his family's estate, she is shocked to find that nothing is as it seemed. The man she thought to be her husband is wealthy and married to another woman. Though she wants to run away, Adam's overbearing mother forces Kendall to stay with the threat of taking her son away if she leaves.

Adam's brother, Luke, rescues Kendall by agreeing to marry her and claiming his brother's son as his own. It is a marriage arranged for appearances, with few people aware of the truth, and neither Luke nor Kendall plan to fall in love. But the author takes the reader on their slow progression of falling in love throughout the book. It was a love they never expected and it was written beautifully.

Seamlessly blended into the romance is a mystery. After a series of accidents, Kendall unravels a lifetime of secrets that smudge the memories of her childhood and place her in danger. And as Kendall bravely faces down the danger, Luke aids her and protects her regardless of the sacrifices he must make.

Ms Marlow has written a well-developed story with multi-dimensional characters, each with enough depth to stand on their own. The characters seem real, the issues authentic and the conclusion an unexpected happily ever after. This is a sweet romance and a great read.
