Unquestionably talented figure skater Matty Marcus is willing to sacrifice everything for his Olympic dream, but his lack of discipline cost him the gold once before. Now the pressure's on. He needs a coach who can keep him in line, but top coaches don't come cheap, and Matty can't afford to stay in the game no matter how badly he wants to win.
When a lucrative house-sitting gig brings him to rural Montana, Matty does his best to maintain his training regimen. Local residents turn out to be surprisingly tolerant of his flamboyant style, especially handsome young rancher Rob Lovely, who proves to be much more than a cowboy stereotype. Just as Matty requires a firm hand to perform his best on the ice, Rob shows him how strong he can be when he relinquishes control in the bedroom. With new-found self-assurance, he drives himself harder to go straight to the top.
But competition has a timetable, and to achieve his Olympic dream, Matty will have to join his new coach in New York City, leaving Rob behind. Now he must face the ultimate test. Has he truly learned how to win—on and off the ice—during his training season?

TRAINING SEASON is a tale told with such flair and tenderness, and with such insight into the two main characters that this is a book I will read over and over again.
Matty Marcus is flamboyant, confident and very talented as a figure skater. He's determined to make it in the next Olympics and win the gold medal. His focused approach takes him to rural Montana to house sit a ranch and horses, whilst he trains to become fit and at the top of his game.
But he hadn't reckoned on sexy rancher next door, Rob Lovely. Rob is a dark horse and his friendly and easygoing exterior belies the man inside--a man who is more than happy to teach Matty how to lose control in the bedroom.
But Matty is determined to follow his dream of success at the Olympics and to do this, he needs to make sure that all distractions are taken away and this includes Rob.
I absolutely loved the character of Matty, all prance and dance, softness and toughness, determination and grit and sheer presence. He was a truly memorable figure. Funny, snarky and yet so vulnerable, he was determined to find his dream. And Rob--Rob was generous to a fault, understanding of Matty's drive and ambition even though it broke his heart.
This tale of two men coming together from such different backgrounds with such varied views on what makes them happy tugs at the heartstrings and gave me a huge lump in my throat. I also loved the fact that this story takes place over a few years, from their meeting to Matty leaving to pursue his dreams and then back to finding each other again.
Beautiful descriptions of the Montana landscape couple with the burgeoning love of these two men as they both face demons and challenges that threaten to drive them apart, all come together in a memorable story so sweetly told that it's a real hardship when the story ends and you realise that even though Rob and Matty have their HEA, you don't because you want to keep on reading!! LOL.
I honestly recommend this book and will definitely be on the lookout for more by this author.
