Book 3 of The Kyn Kronicles
Action/Adventure Romance, Fantasy Romance, Paranormal Romance, Paranormal with Romantic Elements, Romantic Suspense/Mystery, Urban Fantasy, Vamps & Shifters Romance

A blonde, a brunette and a monster walk into a bar and all hell breaks loose.

It should have been the start of a bad joke, but days from a full moon Xander Cade, Tracker for the Northwest Motoki Pack, finds nothing funny about confronting an enraged Shifter in a crowded Portland nightclub filled with unsuspecting humans. The resulting carnage begins to fray the thin veil of secrecy shielding the supernatural Kyn community from public scrutiny. It also ensures there is no escape from the one man she's determined to avoid, her Alpha and mate, Warrick Vidis. Dominating, protective and compelling, Warrick threatens her individuality like no other.

As the Northwest Alpha wolf, compromise isn't in Warrick Vidis's vocabulary, but when his reluctant mate, Xander, refuses to abandon the hunt for a killer, he has no qualms using whoever or whatever necessary to protect her or his pack. A series of unusual deaths involving lone wolves, along with anonymous threats, jeopardizes his normal steely control. Add in Xander's continual reluctance to accept their Soul bond, and the line between intellect and instinct begins to blur, leaving him wondering if one woman's love and acceptance will be enough to save both man and wolf.

As the danger escalates, Warrick and Xander must learn to trust each other and accept their rare bond or risk losing everything—their pack, their friends and each other.

They established a bond under very dangerous circumstances. A relationship between a tracker for the pack and the alpha is a complicated and powerful combination. Danger surrounds them and completing the bond is the only thing that might save them in the end from their enemies. They have to risk everything to be together.

I like a strong, challenging female character like Xander. She is tough and committed to doing what needs to be done to protect the pack. In some ways it would be easier for her to just go along and continue to make the bond to Warrick. It would get the pack off of her back. Some just don't understand why she resists becoming his mate. They see the connection and that they have strong sexual chemistry. Xander knows that Warrick will try to protect her from harm and that will damage her ability to protect others. She also worries that he won't truly let her in and be his partner and can't accept a relationship as less.

Warrick is used to doing what he wants and he wants Xander safe. He didn't realize how much he truly cared until her life was in danger and he bonded to save her. He feels very close to his wolf and worries about letting her in to his thoughts so he tends to push her out. It creates an emotional distance that is painful to Xander.

There is a lot going on in the storyline in addition to the romance. Shifters are known to the government but hidden from the majority of society. The story focuses on bitten wolf shifters who are acting aggressively and have different abilities then they should have. Someone is causing these changes and there is a race to find them before they do something in public which would expose shifters and to stop it from happening to others. Someone is also making threats to Warrick and there is concern about his safety. The author balances the storylines well and they all connect into a very interesting read. It is not a predictable read and goes in directions that you don't expect. It really is more about their emotional bond than the physical bond but they do have a sexual relationship that is very intense.

This is a great story for those who like suspense with their romance. There is a very strong focus on the storyline regarding the threats to the clan and Warrick. The relationship is an important piece is resolving the issues they face. I did not read the previous two novels in the series but I was able to successfully develop an understanding of what happened so as to not feel at a loss. I really enjoyed the characters and story line and now intend to go back and read the other two books. If this book sounds interesting, I would recommend you start with the first one and work your way through the series.
