WOW!! I am totally without words! This is one story that will stay close to my heart because this is a situation that lots of children experience everyday. Family and friends should be there to support them and tell them it was not their fault and that everything will be okay.
I'm speechless after reading the third installment of the Embrace Series. I know that when I was only 8% into reading this book, I was bawling my eyes out because I felt so bad for Brian and the kids. I was wiping tears after tears but they would not stop the pain that I felt in my heart; it was painful. I was an emotional mess in the beginning and I was an emotional mess at the end. But I do have to say that there was some happy times, and sometimes that I wanted to smack him up the side of the head because sometimes he was an asshat with Melissa. He either wanted to be with her or not but she deserved to be happy.
The storyline was captivating and I knew that when I got to the meat of the story I couldn't stop; I needed to keep going. No matter how I felt in the beginning, in the middle or in the end, it was a read that inspired me and taught me that family is everything. You should spend as much time as you can with them because you have no idea what may happen to them and that you should teach the children that no matter what, they can talk to you.
Detective Brian Hammel believed that he was going to marry Melissa Parker. They had plans; they even had promise rings but life happened. He ended up sleeping with his now wife Julie and that one encounter had consequences. But there was one thing that made me so mad at him and that was that he didn't have the guts to break up with Melissa.
Melissa had it rough in the beginning when she learned that Brian had made her best friend pregnant, and her studies suffered. Then she ended up meeting a nice guy and she was going to try to make this work with Chase; she deserved to be happy and have a family. Then the unthinkable happens to her twin sister. Ali's baby is kidnapped and that takes Melissa back home. Her best friend, Julie, also ends up breaking up her family and becomes involved in a deadly accident that leaves Brian and her children without her.
Brian had a hard time after the death of his wife and it took Melissa's help to get him to realize that he needs to keep on living and be there for his children. He was in so much pain after he saw his wife being unfaithful to him but the worst was her not telling the kids goodbye before she passed away. He was a dedicated to his job and to his family but he needed to be well for his children now. He was also working on a case where he and Melissa were spending so much time together that maybe there could be a second chance between them, but he had it difficult because Melissa had gotten engaged. Would there be a second chance for them?
BROKEN EMBRACE is a story that is suspenseful. It has so many twists and turns that I had no idea what would happen, and when they did, I was just speechless. Ms. Mason's characters and scenes are so vividly descriptive. Her writing is clear and focused, and the romance and the passion can be felt in each word, in each look, in each embrace. I fell in love with Brian and Melissa, and as well as with all the other characters, especially Brian's lovely children. These are very special people and they will stay dear in my heart. This story is gut wrenching and at times devastating. There were some unforgettable moments and moments that I would love to forget.
I totally recommend this book, as well as the entire series. I know for sure after reading this book that I will go back to reread the other two books.
