Alisha Knight is a down-to-earth woman who just so happens to have her sights set on the beta of a large werewolf pack. But despite the way her body reacts to his powerful presence, bitter experience has shown her that a wolf pack is no place for a human girl. As his alpha's trusted second-in-command, Phil McKenna takes his responsibilities seriously, even when that means taking disobedient females over his knee for an attitude adjustment. Though he is smitten with Alisha, the feisty little human friend of his alpha's mate, humans and wolves don't usually mix well and her presence could easily put both her and the pack in danger. Rules of the Pack is the sequel to Marked by the Alpha. It is an erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, and more. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

RULES OF THE PACK by Adaline Raine is another spanking story from Stormy Night Publications. I wish that I could say that this story was as enjoyable as many of the others I've read from them, but for me, it wasn't. I found the story lackluster and I simply couldn't generate any sort of emotions for the characters compelling me to want to read the story. While this is meant to be a standalone story, RULES OF THE PACK seems to start in the middle of a scene much like if you were to walk up to some people who are in the middle of a conversation and rather than bring you up to speed, you're left to flounder and hopefully catch up.

I didn't find the characters engaging nor were the sex scenes exciting to me. The spanking scenes "smacked" of corporal punishment and the dialogue surrounding them along with the actual scenes had me cringing, which doesn't normally happen to me.

There were many areas throughout the story where a final line edit would have done wonders as it looked as though sentences were combined but then not checked after for clarity. There were also scenes where, for example, Alisha is licking Phil's chest and suddenly he's reaching around behind him to pull her around front. This left me wondering if instead of a werewolf story, she was some sort of amphibian with an incredibly long tongue.

I enjoy paranormal erotica, especially ones with a bit of a twist, but despite forcing myself to read the entire story, this was definitely not my cup of tea.
