Erotic Romance, Paranormal Romance

Cosette Beauvais is a risk taker with a capital R. When her daredevil behavior leaves her paralyzed, her uncle ends her suffering by turning her into a vampire. In no time she makes her mark as one of the most cunning female vamps in existence. Though her fearlessness is admired in her violent new world, her impulsiveness leaves her with terrible regrets. By violating the rules, she kills a young human while feeding from him. The selfish deed haunts her, causing her to steer clear of men who attract her both physically and mentally. After she breaks with a vampire kingpin named Tristan who tried to turn her against her uncle and her own vampire family, her life spins out of control. Bloodthirsty wolves, a new threat to the Savannah area, stalk her daily. She is dead set on finding the source of the attempts on her life and repairing the strained ties with her uncle Severin, so the last thing Cosette needs is a devastatingly sexy new human in her life. Colton Brennan is a massive Montana cowboy, a skilled fighter who has sworn to win Cosette's love. Try as she might, she can't resist the passion he has ignited within her, no matter what the consequences. Can this human provide the love and protection Cosette has unwittingly craved? Meanwhile Tristan and his power-hungry clan are on a quest for Southern vampiric domination. Can Cosette and her Charleston-based vampire family survive their brutal onslaughts? She was a wild child. Her adventures left her paralyzed until her uncle made her a vampire. A new life began where the old one ended. Centuries later, she finds a man that she can't resist. Can he survive all the danger she now faces?

Cosette was born during a period where young women were expected to be demure and live quietly in the shadow of the men in their lives. Her family was determined to marry her off. She wanted excitement and adventure and not the life of a wife. As the wedding approached, she became even more determined to enjoy her freedom. It led to a tragic accident and a lifetime of paralysis faced her.

Her uncle, who was presumed dead, came to visit her and offered her the opportunity to be a vampire and regain the freedom she had lost. She jumped at the chance for a very different life. Her new life brought her strength and adventure but also pain as she adjusted to the blood lust. It made her vow to avoid human men and her choice in a vampire lover brought her different pain. No human man intrigued her enough to break her vow until she met Colton. Colton would not take no for an answer when she tried to disappear from his life.

Colton is a very strong man who faced a tragic past. He fears nothing. He is a fighter and he is willing to risk his life to be with Cosette. He has never felt so strongly about a woman. From their first meeting, the chemistry is intense. Colton is sexy and fun and a lover that aims to please. He is protective of her and determined to keep her safe. He won't let her go.

This is the second book in the Past Midnight series. The first book is focused on her uncle Severin. I did not read the first book yet but this book really reads as a standalone. It is not necessary to read it first to follow along with the story but you will probably want to check it out after you enjoy Cosette and Colton's romance.

From their first meeting, it is clear these two are in for a hot romance. You get a brief interlude from Cosette's past which lets you see just how important adventure is to her, and why someone as wild as Colton would really appeal to her. While there is some violence and adventure in this story, it is very focused on the relationship between the two. Cosette really struggles with her desire to have a life with Colton and her fear that his being with her will lead to pain and death for him.

Colton, on the other hand, has no such struggle. It is clear from their first meeting that he wants her and he will do whatever it takes to be in her life. He is a true alpha and in amazing physical condition from the fights he participates in regularly to release his personal pain. It is his strength that guides her to a new path and a chance at the love she has never truly experienced.

This book is the exciting story of a vampire and the human who loves her enough to risk his life to be with her. Cosette had always been in love with adventure and excitement, and it led her to the decision to become a vampire when one adventure ended badly. Colton lived a childhood filled with harsh punishment and little love and seeks fights to deal with the lingering pain. While he is sure their love is worth any risk, she struggles with the decision to bring him into her dangerous world. It is the story of an enduring love and sure to appeal to those who love romance stories.
