Book 2 of Calling It
Contemporary Romance

There's one thing Max "Deke" Deacon can always count on besides his old high school teammates: Angelica "Fitz" Hawkins. But no matter how much Deke might secretly fantasize otherwise, a relationship with his best friend's sister is off limits. Until one unexpectedly smoldering encounter has Deke and Fitz giving in to the feelings they've both been fighting for far too long.

Fitz knows for a fact that it is not better to have loved and lost. After losing her parents, she'd rather lock up her heart and throw away the key than endure that kind of pain again. If that means giving up any hope of a lasting relationship, then so be it.

But with Deke, Fitz feels dangerously close to falling in love. She can't risk another broken heart—especially if it means losing one of her best friends for good. Now it's up to Deke to convince her that the safest place she could ever be is right here with him.

There's something so sexy about a guy's guy who's not afraid of letting his softer side out around his woman, even as all (or most) the women in his past still adore him and share nothing but a good memory of a hot night. Go Deke!

As the sister of his longtime best friend, Angelica "Fitz" Wade Hawkins is absolutely, unequivocally off limits. So what if he's noticed her more feminine...assets...lately? Max Deacon has to forget about anything his lizard brain might want. Even if she seems receptive to the idea.

Fitz has known Deke since they were teenagers and Fitz entered Deke's life under an unexpected and unfortunate set of circumstances. She's used to his playboy, carefree lifestyle. She's NOT used to him looking at her like THAT. Her teenage years left Fitz scared and hesitant to trust, but if there's one thing Deke asks for it's honesty. Between not sharing her whole self with Deke and coming out to their friends, Fitz has no idea what she's doing...only that she wants to keep doing it with Deke at her side. She thinks.

OhmahgawdIlurvedthisooomuch! Jen Doyle's first book in the Calling It series, Calling It, was one of my favorite reads of the year, and book 2, CALLED UP was just as good! Deke was such a sweetheart, and even though he hadn't crossed the line from playboy to manwhore quite yet, it was damn close. Fitz has dealt with her parents' death when she was a teenager, and she grew up under a judgmental microscope, giving nobody in Inspiration, IA cause to question her morals. The two have always been close friends, and both suddenly seeing the other in a new light was somehow both sweet and sexy. Witness:

What was her problem? Two weeks ago he'd made her judge a burping contest in which extra points were given for substance and tone. Just the other day they'd had an argument over whether it was time to finally burn the tennis shoes in his gym bag. Which, by the way, it was. How was she possibly finding him even close to attractive?

I just love Ms. Doyle's lighthearted yet delicious voice, her fabulous blend of humor and heat that of a much more seasoned author (did I mention this was only her second book?). She has earned a spot on my auto-buy list, and I'm super excited for the next story in this über excellent series!

Bottom Line: CALLED UP gets a big YAAAAAAASSSS from this reviewer! If you dig well written, sweet, funny and erotic romance with a firm HEA, do yourself a favor and pick this series up!
