CEO Debbie and demon Shaker's first year of partnership was a smashing success for both Pandora Productions and their own new intimate relationship, ending with the announcement of their engagement last New Year's Eve. Shaker now inhabits a human host, Pandora's rising action star Jett Black, putting the possibility of a family within Debbie's tentative grasp as the couple pledges their love at the altar. But as before, one crisis after another ensues, beginning with Titan's push to assimilate Pandora and the death of Debbie's father, bringing her back together with her estranged family, and into the sights of a demon-hunting priest, Father Matthew, who will stop at nothing to not only send Shaker back to the Hell he came from, but also ensure Debbie is free of sin…permanently. When Shaker is sent back to Hell, Debbie is left bereft, her team of allies decimated, her best friend in a coma, she must decide if she will succumb…or rise from the ashes and fight ruthlessly for everything she loves, no matter the cost.

YEAR OF THE DEMON by Tara Fox Hall picks up almost where A GOOD YEAR leaves off and we are back in the lives of Debbie and her demon lover, Shaker, who is in the body of action star, Jett Black. Are you with me? Sounds a bit like a soap opera, which fits well given that this has a very indie Hollywood vibe; or would that be Sundance.
Their first year of partnership has been a great success for Pandora Productions and their personal relationship has been quite spectacular as well. But much like in A Good Year, there are problems, conundrums, crises (all plural), annoying demon hunters, and family to contend with. What's a woman to do when everything seems to be going to hell fast? With her team falling apart and her very soul on the line, will Debbie let it all take over or will she fight for everything she believes in and everyone she loves?
Again, much like in the first book, I've found this story unexpected and at this point, I'm unsure if it's Ms. Hall's writing style for this series or the content for while I found it engaging, I also very much felt like a voyeur while reading the story. And, as I read the story, I had this question playing on an endless loop in my head: What would you do to save what's most important to you? More importantly, how far would you go?
Likes: A lot happens in this book, so much so that if you blink, you'll miss something. So much subterfuge, conniving, and posturing for power. Who are the good guys, or at least the less bad guys? Ms. Hall gives nothing away until she's ready and she takes her time getting there, unraveling the story bit by bit, drawing you in. I will also admit to being a sucker for reformed hell hounds. They're just so cute! Once again, Debbie is a like/dislike for me. Her character is ruthless, willing to do what it takes for everyone/everything she cares about. So much so that she misses some of the signs that not everything is as it seems. As the story draws to a close, battles are fought, secrets come out, we are reminded of the original question: What would you do?
YEAR OF THE DEMON is book 2 in the Unhallowed Love series.
